Mmmmmmmmmm, burgers! There is nothing better then a juicy burger with a cold beer and a bonfire on a summer night. Last night J.O. and I did just that. We cooked our turkey burgers over an open flame and it was delish!
It took a bit of convincing over the years to get J.O. to make the switch to turkey burgers, but now he loves them! Coincidentally, so does the long dog as he snatched a burger from the table when we weren’t looking! J.O. told me that my recipe for a spicy turkey burger made it easy for him to make the switch. With that being said, here it is:
You will need:
1 lbs lean ground turkey
1 small onion, diced
1 Jalapeños diced (if you like spicy use the seeds, if you prefer it more mild, discard the seeds)
1 tablespoon chunky salsa (extra for serving)
1 clove garlic minced
1/4 cup chopped cilantro
1 tsp cummin
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 black pepper
1/4 tsp chili powder
Pepperjack cheese (optional)
Avocado sliced (optional)
Mix all ingredients, except for turkey, together in a bowl. Add in turkey and combine. Divide meat into four equal patties and dimple the center (this will help the burgers not bulge). We cooked ours over an open fire, but obviously they can be cooked to you liking on a grill or skillet.
Serve with fresh slices of avocado or guacamole (click HERE for my recipe) , tomato, pepperjack cheese & lettuce. We usually do some type of beans for a side.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
